Car Air Conditioner Problems That Can Happen Over Time

We know it is still winter, but we can also imagine that you won’t be very happy if you turn on your import’s air conditioner in the summer and it doesn’t work. As with your home’s AC unit, it’s a good idea to have your automobile’s AC unit inspected every spring to make sure it is ready to do its summer job. Car Doctors Auto Repair are experts in Asian and European automobiles, and we can check your AC system to make sure you don’t have any of the problems listed below.

System Leaks

Hose connectors are the most common reason why your vehicle’s air conditioner is leaking. Over time, the hose connectors that connect the hoses throughout the system wear out and refrigerant leaks out of them. You may see refrigerant on your garage floor, or you may see it pooling around the hose connections.

Condenser Clogs

Dirt and debris from the road can actually clog your air conditioner’s condenser. This part is tucked behind your automobile grille, and its primary job is to cool down the refrigerant. The condenser cannot only be clogged by road debris but it can also be damaged by it. You might end up with a broken condenser if it’s struck by a rock just right.

Faulty Wiring

Fraying, breaks, and worn insulation are all things that affect your air conditioning system’s wiring. If there is a problem with the system wiring, your air conditioner may not receive the electricity it needs to run. In fact, you may turn on the AC and find nothing happening at all. Electrical wiring problems should only be handled by professionals.

Dead Cooling Fans

The air conditioning system in your automobile has a fan to blow the cool air into your cabin and condenser fans to help it cool the hot refrigerant. The condenser fans can be damaged by road debris just as easily as the condenser can. If your fan motor is blown, you won’t feel any air coming through your vents when you turn on the air conditioner.

Compressor Problems

Finally, the compressor is what circulates the refrigerant through the air conditioning system so you have cool air blowing through the vents. This part can go bad if it is not used. A home maintenance solution is to blast it for 15 minutes monthly to extend its life. It doesn’t matter how hot or cold it is outside, running the compressor keeps it in shape.

You’ll find Car Doctors Auto Repair in Athens, GA, and we’d be happy to inspect your vehicle’s air conditioner to make sure it’s ready to go when the mercury rises.
