Your import relies on the water pump to circulate coolant through the engine to keep the engine’s temperature under 220 degrees Fahrenheit. If the temperature creeps above this maximum limit, the engine will overheat. Car Doctors Auto Repair going to list five signs that you have a faulty water pump underneath the hood. If you are import has over 100,000 miles on it, this is the average duration that a water pump lasts. Don’t worry. We can replace the water pump if it needs it.

1. Corroded Water Pump

If you pop the hood and inspect your water pump, you shouldn’t see corrosion, holes, or pits on the surface. If you do, your water pump is leaking. Although the leak is minor, the liquid coolant still damages the water pump and directly affects its ability to operate. It’s important to replace the corroded water pump as soon as possible.

2. Noticeable Coolant Leaks

If you fail to do so, the water pump will eventually begin to leak coolant onto your garage floor. You will see puddles or spots of the coolant at the front of your engine. This is where the water pump is located. It isn’t uncommon for a water pump to start leaking once it needs to be replaced. This is just another sign that the pump is too old.

3. Poor Coolant Circulation

As we mentioned above, the water pump is responsible for circulating the coolant through your import’s engine. If the water pump is malfunctioning, it may be unable to circulate the coolant through the engine effectively. Oftentimes, a water pump that is going bad loses its ability to push the coolant through the engine.

4. Whining or Growling Noises

The water pump is attached to your vehicle’s accessory belt. If you hear whining noises or squealing sounds when you first start your automobile, the accessory belt is having problems and this can cause problems for the water pump. If you hear growling sounds coming from your engine, it’s possible that the water pump’s internal mechanisms are grinding against each other.

5. Overheating All the Time

Finally, all of these things will make your engine overheat all the time. This is a definite sign that the engine is not getting the coolant it needs to keep the temperature below 220 degrees. Unfortunately, if you continue to drive your import with an overheating engine, you will damage it.
