I Can’t Stop My Import’s Brakes From Squealing

If your import’s brakes are squealing all the time, head straight to Car Doctors Auto Repair for a brake inspection. There are many reasons why the brakes squeal all the time. We are going to list these reasons below. We will inspect the brake system so we can find the exact problem. Once we know what is wrong, we will provide you with a detailed estimate of what it will take to fix the problem and stop the squealing noise.

Broken Clips

The brakes are equipped with anti-rattle clips that prevent the brake pads from moving around when you apply the brakes. If the brake pads were able to move, they would squeal. Naturally, if one of these clips has broken, the pad on that wheel is going to squeal. If more than one of the clips is broken, the squealing will be louder because it will be coming from multiple wheels.

Low Pad Surface

You may also be driving with brake pads that have a surface of 1/4-of-an-inch or lower. The brake pads may have a noisemaker installed in them that will make the brakes squeal when they get this low. This is your warning that it is time to schedule an appointment to have new brake pads installed.

No Pad Insulation

If you just had new pads installed in your brakes started squealing afterward, it’s possible that the auto technician forgot to install new brake pad insulation. This insulation also prevents the brake pads from squealing. Consequently, if the pads are not insulated, they are going to make noises when you use the brakes. Bring your vehicle to our shop and we will check to see if the pads are insulated.

Overly Hot Brakes

The brakes will also make noise if they are overheating. If you smell burning odors along with the squealing sounds, we recommend that you pull over to a safe space and avoid driving your automobile. Call for a tow truck to our shop because you may not be able to stop your import if the brakes reach a certain temperature. In other words, it’s dangerous to drive your automobile.

Smooth Rotors

Finally, the rotor surfaces will lose their cut over time because of the friction they cause with the brake pads. When this happens, the rotors will squeal. We can inspect the rotors to see if they need to be replaced or if cutting the surface again will stop the squealing.
