Malfunctioning Air Conditioning Parts

Summer may not be here yet, but it’s never too early to think about your car’s air conditioner. You want to make certain that you have plenty of cold and refreshing air blowing through the vents the first time you turn the AC on and throughout the summer. Car Doctors Auto Repair can inspect your import’s AC to make sure all of the parts are functioning as they should be. More on this below.

Compressor

For example, the compressor is an AC system part that works better when it works often. The fact that you haven’t turned on the air conditioner throughout the winter and spring can actually cause the compressor to malfunction. We will test the compressor to make sure it is ready to do its job of compressing and circulating the refrigerant through the air conditioning system.

Condenser

The condenser can be easily damaged because it is located directly behind the grille. We will inspect the condenser to make sure it is not clogged and that it doesn’t have any visible signs of damage such as dents or corrosion. The condenser cools off the hot refrigerant once it has circulated through the system. It uses vents and a condenser fan to help reduce the refrigerant’s temperature.

Condenser Fan

The condenser fan can go bad by itself or it may fail due to an electrical system problem. We will talk more about the electrical system next. Suffice it to say, if the condenser fan is not operating, you will end up with hot refrigerant circulating through the air conditioning system. Consequently, the air blowing through the vents will be warm at a minimum if not hot.

Electrical System

Your import’s AC system has its own electrical system to help it run. Many things can go wrong with the electrical system. You may press the AC switch on your dashboard only to have nothing happen. As we mentioned above, the electrical system may prevent the condenser fan from working. A faulty system can also prevent the condenser and the compressor from working.

Refrigerant

Finally, you need plenty of refrigerant in the air conditioning system to make sure your import stays cool all summer long. The refrigerant is initially a gas that is compressed into a liquid. When in its gas form, it can evaporate over time. When in its liquid form, it can leak out of the air conditioning system hose connectors. We will check your refrigerant level to make sure it does not need to be topped off.
