Signs I’ve Got a Cracked Exhaust Manifold in My Porsche

Car Doctors Auto Repair can replace the exhaust manifold in your Porsche if it is cracked. We are the best domestic and best European auto shop in Athens. The following problems are signs that the manifold or the exhaust manifold gasket is leaking. This can happen if the Porsche’s motor overheats and cracks either exhaust system part. Age can also play a role in cracking auto parts.

Reduced Performance

It’s easy to notice a reduction in your Porsche’s performance because it is such a high-performance vehicle. When the exhaust manifold or gasket is cracked, exhaust gases fill the engine and interfere with the production of combustion. Consequently, the Porsche will start to lag and sputter.

Reduced Fuel Efficiency

You might think that this will cause the Porsche to use less fuel but the opposite occurs. The Porsche actually burns more fuel in its effort to produce compression and combustion. Unfortunately, this means you will end up heading to the service station more frequently to keep the tank full.

Strong Burning Odors

Sputtering is not the only way the Porsche’s engine will respond to the exhaust manifold leak. It will also overheat because the exhaust gases are high in temperature. You will see the temperature gauge rise on the dashboard and smell strong burning odors coming from the engine, including plastic and rubber.

Strong Exhaust Odors

You might also smell the Porsche’s exhaust inside the vehicle. This is your sign to pull over and have your Porsche towed to our shop. If the ventilation system is blowing the exhaust into the passenger cabin, you will get sick as you inhale it. As you know, vehicle exhaust can be fatal when inhaled excessively.

Hissing or Tapping

The Porsche’s engine is also going to make strange sounds when you fire it up and while it is running. As the exhaust leaks out of the manifold or gasket, it will tap or hiss. It’s much easier to hear this noise at engine start-up, so listen carefully when you turn the key or press the Porsche’s start button.

Check Engine Warning

Finally, the engine control unit, the main computer chip, will turn on the check engine light or CEL, as it is also called, to warn you of problems in the engine. In this case, the problem is a cracked exhaust manifold or gasket that is leaking exhaust gases into the engine and affecting its performance.
